What is the Leicester Residents Survey

Since 1998, Leicester City Council has carried out a Residents Survey to obtain views from residents and service users on their satisfaction with council services, how effectively services are being delivered and how they might be improved. Leicester City Council joined up with NHS Leicester City to undertake the 2008 survey.

Who was surveyed?

Just over 2,300 face-to-face interviews were carried out with a representative sample of residents aged 16 or more in peoples homes across Leicester between 2nd July and 24th September 2008.

Residents' were asked their views on: -
Their satisfaction with Leicester as a place to live.
Their perceptions of community cohesion and their involvement in the local community.
How they use council services and their levels of satisfaction when using these.
How the council communicates what it does to service users.
Whether residents feel safe in their community.
Satisfaction with their local health services.

Data is weighted by ward area, age, sex, working status and ethnicity. Booster samples were also undertaken in areas of the city, which fall within the top 5% most deprived neighbourhoods (priority areas)in England. This will give us the opportunity to see if there are very large differences in perception between residents in the city's deprived neighbourhood priority and non priority areas.

Who carried out the survey?

Ipsos MORI were commissioned by Leicester City Council and NHS Leicester City to carry out the Leicester Residents' Survey 2008.

How we will use the results?
The council, NHS Leicester City and our local partners will use findings from the survey to improve services and influence decision-making.

A summary of the findings and a copy of the final report by Ipsos MORI can be found in the findings and actions section below.

Acknowledgements
The council and NHS Leicester City gratefully acknowledges the help and assistance given by the many residents who took part in the surveys.
