Why we are doing this?

To find out how well the different agencies in Leicester are doing in delivering the services that matter to local residents, and whether things could be done differently in the future.

The Government have introduced a new postal survey - the Place Survey, which all local authorities must undertake every two years.

It is being carried out by Leicester City Council on behalf of Leicester Partnership.

The Leicester's Place Survey, due to go out 29 September 2008, is being sent to thousands of homes across Leicester. Addresses will be selected randomly and unfortunately, only those residents who receive a questionnaire will be able to take part in the survey.

The questionnaire asks for opinions about aspects of the quality of life in a person's local area within Leicester (such as community safety and their local services etc). By local area, it means the area within 15-20 minutes walking distance from the person's home.

It will aim to capture peoples' views and track peoples' changing perceptions, and to find out whether any interventions in the way services are delivered by Leicester City Council, their partners, such as the Police and the NHS in an area have resulted in the right outcomes for local people i.e. do people feel happier, healthier, safer?

The form should only take about 20 minutes to complete and we would urge everyone who receives one to reply as soon as possible.

Surveys will have to be completed and returned in the pre-addressed envelope by 19th December.

The survey asks for views including:

What makes an area a good place to live?

What most needs improving?

Satisfaction with existing public services?

How effective agencies are all working together to deliver improvements?

How much residents get involved in community affairs such as running local clubs?

What we will do with your feedback?

The results of the survey will be reported to the Department of Communities and Local Government and used by the council and its partners such as the police, health, business and community representatives to help them make decisions about the provision of services for local people.
