The SEND Home to School travel Policy has been updated and published. It will be reviewed to ensure the council optimises the opportunities and life chances for young people and children.

Overview

Leicester City Council provides home to school transport services for children and young people with special education needs, disability or mobility needs (SEND).

The current draft policy details how Leicester City Council will assist with SEND travel arrangements as well as outlining council, parent and carer responsibilities.

The revised SEND home to school transport policy has been updated to reflect the legislation changes arising from the 2014 Children and Families Act. There are no significant changes.

The Education, Health and Care Plans for children and young people (up to age 25) will identify if transport needs are clear and supported by a qualified expert. The council will only write transport into the child or young person’s plan with this expert view.

While the council will do its best to arrange educational support as near as possible to a child or young person’s home, it is sometimes necessary for the child or young person to travel some distance in order to receive the most appropriate educational support. This policy looks at how to best meet the travel needs of those children and young people.

Why your views matter

This consultation seeks views from service users, parents, carers, service providers, staff and other stakeholders on the policy to ensure it meets the needs of qualifying children and young people up to the age of 25.
