Homelessness can have a devastating effect on individuals, families and the wider community.  Therefore, it is important that our homelessness services enable people, who are either facing or experiencing homelessness, to find settled accommodation and are given opportunities to become active members of our community.

There have been many changes to Government Policy and we are concerned about the effect this will have on homelessness in Leicester, especially with the impact of reduced Government funding and the implementation of welfare reform.  This makes it even more difficult to predict the future need for homelessness services.

Following the Homelessness Summit in November 2011, a review of homelessness services across the city was undertaken.  This was done in partnership with the public, voluntary, community and faith sectors.  The findings of the review have led to the development of a new draft Homelessness Strategy and Delivery Proposals for the future.

Homelessness is a city wide issue that requires a city wide response.  I would therefore like to invite you to tell me what you think the issues are, relating to homelessness in Leicester, by responding to our consultation.  All comments will be considered and will contribute to the final version of the Homelessness Strategy (2013-2018) and our Delivery Proposals.

The questionnaire includes a summary of the key points contained in the review report and proposal documents.

Client Consultation Event

To ensure that the clients of homeslessness services (past and present) can have their say, we have arranged a consultation event where we will be asking for your views on our proposals. We will also be looking to find out about people's experience of homelessness and their use of homelessness services, which will give us a better idea of the services that will be required in the future.

The event is scheduled to run for three hours from 1-4 pm. The same consultation process will be repeated twice during this time, so you do not have to stay for the full three hours. You can also drop in whenever like during this time if you just want to give us your views.

The consultation event will take place between 1-4pm on the 6th February, 2012 in Hansom Hall at the Adult Education Centre, Wellington Street, Leicester.

What happens next

The council will keep you informed, listen to and acknowledge concerns and aspirations, and provide feedback on how public input influenced the decision.
