We asked

We asked whether you thought that the proposals would help to support businesses and improve the City Centre for visitors and residents, and what elements you did and didn’t like.

You said

You said that the re-development proposals would improve the area for businesses, visitors and residents. Over 80% of responses were positive.

We did

We have taken concerns raised on board with regards to connectivity with surrounding areas, the quality of the perimeter shops and roads, and the use and management of the square. We’re currently putting actions in place to mitigate these issues.

Overview

Following the public consultation process that concluded early in 2013 a commitment was given to go back to the public once further details had been worked up for the new square, highways treatments and the rear of the corn exchange.

Why your views matter

The Market re-development scheme is now progressing on site with the construction of the new food hall underway and that will be complete by the end of the year. Planning permission has also been secured to demolish the current Market Hall and for the new toilet block and Market offices at 2-4 market Sq South.

We now need to firm up proposals for using the space created when that building is removed and would like to seek your views on these new developments.

Before you begin the consultation - please take a look at the documents available for download below. We have also included a link to the original consultation should you wish to refer back to it.

What happens next

All responses will be analysed carefully and used to help refine the proposals.

A report of the consultation findings and feedback on the decisions made will be published here.
