Feedback updated 20 May 2014

We asked

We want to find out what people think about the proposed changes to the housing related support services, and how people would be affected if change did happen.

You said

That there were elements of the original proposal which you would like to have seen modified. Some of the changes people wanted to see were: • Where there is only an alarm that we still contribute towards the costs. • Support in sheltered and supported housing was very important to people. A more detailed breakdown for each aspect can be found in the document, ‘Detailed Feedback’, on the front page.

We did

As a result of your feedback we changed some aspects of our proposal including: • Providing core support in Sheltered and Supported Housing schemes • For customers who currently only have an alarm we will still contribute towards its costs.

Results updated 20 May 2014

Following the conclusion of the statutory consultation, a report, which took into account the concerns raised, has been considered by the Executive on the future model for services.   Please see full report below.  A notice of our intention to make a decision on the future direction of services can be found by clicking the link below.

Please see below for a summary of our proposals, the feedback received and the our response tot he feedback in the doucment, 'Detailed Feedback'.

Overview

Proposed changes to the housing related support services

Why your views matter

We want to find out what people think about the proposed changes to the housing related support services, and how people would be affected if change did happen.

Service users directly effected by these proposals will be contacted directly with a questionnaire. However, this page is an opportunity for anyone who might have a view on these proposals to have their say. There are four proposals - please go to the appropriate page of this on-line questionnaire to give us your view on one or more of these proposals.

Scroll down to the 'Give us your views' option at the bottom of the page to begin. Please read the attached information leaflets before you complete the questionniare.

The consultation proposals:

1. Alarm services:

We are proposing to stop paying towards the cost of the alarm service in sheltered housing schemes or in your own home, which you use to let people know when you’re away or when you need help in the home.

This proposal would mean you would still be able to have an alarm service from your landlord but the council would not continue to pay for it.

The changes could mean that you have to pay some or all of the costs of your alarm.

2. Sheltered housing support:

The council is proposing to change the way sheltered housing support is provided by:

Introducing an assessment for each person to make sure help is given where it is needed most

Giving people who are eligible for services:

  • Money to manage and choose support themselves or
  • Help to manage the money to buy their support or
  • Help with choosing a support provider.

The council thinks that this change would be better for people because those who are eligible for support could:

  • Buy support from who they want
  • Change their support when they want to
  • Arrange the support at times they want to.

3. Supported accommodation support

The council is proposing to change the way supported accommodation support is provided by:

Introducing an assessment for each person to make sure help is given where it is needed most

Giving people who are eligible for services:

  • Money to manage and choose support themselves or
  • Help to manage the money to buy their support or
  • Help with choosing a support provider.

The council thinks that this change would be better for people because those who are eligible for support could:

  • Buy support from who they want
  • Change their support when they want to
  • Arrange the support at times they want to.

4. Floating support

The council is proposing to change the way floating support is provided by:

Introducing an assessment for each person to make sure help is given where it is needed most

Giving people who are eligible for services:

  • Money to manage and choose support themselves or
  • Help to manage the money to buy their support or
