The consultation began with information posted at leicester.gov.uk/goldenmile from 20 October. There was a simple survey available to allow people to comment on information before the public engagement events. The electronic survey went live on 27 October and closed on 24 November.
Four public consultation sessions were held in the Belgrave area. Every household in the Belgrave/Latimer wards was leafleted and the events were publicised online and through social media. Shops along the Golden Mile were also leafleted and were given posters to display. Other meetings were held with local stakeholder groups.
A full set of results and summary as well as the next actions are at www.leicester.gov.uk/goldenmile
We would like local residents and businesses to tell us how we can improve the street environment on Belgrave Road, and comment on suggestions we are putting forward on how this might be done.
We also want to hear from people who live and work elsewhere in the city, and those who travel into the city regularly. We are particularly interested in hearing what people consider the main problems with Belgrave Road are (for instance, traffic speed, congestion, pedestrian and cycle access, shop security, the environment and landscape, etc).
We would also like to hear what you think about the potential introduction of a ‘shared space’ scheme for the area to improve the environment for shoppers. The idea of ‘shared space’ has already worked in other cities to widen pavements, manage traffic flow better and make the area safer for traffic and pedestrians alike.
We want your views on whether this could work on Belgrave Road.
More information on the project is available at leicester.gov.uk/goldenmile
Once we have collected the information from this consultation along with the opinions offered at our four public meetings, we will come up with a proposal for shared space on Belgrave Road and there will be a further consultation on the proposals made.
