We asked

We asked for your opinions on what heritage based activities you would to see on the parks across the City.

You said

73 responses were received. The top three choices for activities were Guided Walks, Archeological Digs and Public Talks, with the top three choices for training workshops being; Archeology, Conservation and Archival research.

We did

We have now created activities based on these opinions and will submit them to the Heritage Lottery Fund for approval. If the application is successful, activities will begin from Summer 2016 and continue through to December 2016.

Overview

Leicester City Council is developing a grant application to the Heritage Lottery Fund to restore the historic wrought iron gates located in Victoria Park, designed by architect Sir Edwin Lutyens and commissioned by Sir Jonathan North in memory of his late wife. The project not only aims to restore the gates and explore the history of Victoria Park, but will also delve into the story of all of Leicester’s main Parks.

Why your views matter

We are currently designing events and activities about the history of parks in Leicester. Anything from family fun days, oral history, heritage trails to archival research, drama performances and art projects. We would like to hear your ideas and help develop activities, training opportunities and volunteer roles that would interest you.
