Statement Of Community Involvement

Overview

Leicester is a city that has recently seen great change in its buildings, public spaces, shops and attractions.  It has plans to continue its economic growth working with local businesses and the community.  This growth must be well planned to ensure that it continues to support businesses and the economy as well as delivering attractive buildings and places.  An important part of good planning is meaningful engagement and discussion with the community, businesses and services that exist in the city.  This will ensure that the growth and development of the city in the future benefits everyone.

The draft Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) sets out how and when the community and other stakeholders will be consulted on the preparation of Leicester City Council’s planning documents.   It also explains how the community will be consulted on planning applications.

Why your views matter

The previous SCI was produced in 2014 and requires updating due to changes in planning regulations.  The main updates to the SCI sets out the Council’s approach to neighbourhood planning, and how we are going to engage with neighbourhood forums in the city.  Currently there is one neighbourhood forum in Leicester, within the Knighton area.  The draft SCI also outlines how the council will comply with recent changes to data protection requirements introduced through the General Data Protection Regulation.

We are now seeking comments on the revised SCI during the six week consultation period from 01/08/19 to 13/09/19.
