We asked for your views on our budget proposals and on how these proposals might affect vulnerable groups.

You responded by telling us which budget proposals you supported and which ones you didn’t support.

We did

We considered your responses alongside contributions from other parties in deliberating our budget. This resulted in a number of changes being made to the draft budget, including the withdrawal of the proposal to cease half fare travel for pensioners, increase the budget for school support services, mitigate the impact of charging £1 to over 60’s for use of leisure centres by offering monthly unlimited access for £5 and free access to Leicester residents where prescribed by GP’s, and reduce noise monitoring service to a Wednesday to Saturday service.

Overview

The government is making substantial cuts to the council's funding.

We have therefore drawn up proposals for savings across each department in order to reduce our spending.

We are now inviting views on these proposals.

What happens next

The city council will analyse all responses carefully and take the views of respondents into consideration when making final decisions about proposed growth and savings.

Please note that this is not a polling exercise. The information received will be looked at by the city mayor, his deputy and his team of assistant mayors. They will also look at lots of other information and will be listening to the views of many organisations including the trade unions which represent the council's staff, community groups and businesses.

There are many things that have to be considered in setting our budget, including which services we have to provide by law.
