Primary Fair Access Protocol (schools) 2024
Overview
All local authorities must have a Fair Access Protocol (FAP) to ensure that unplaced and vulnerable children, and those who are having difficulty in securing a school place in-year, are allocated a school place as quickly as possible.
The protocol must be consulted upon and developed in partnership with all schools in its area. Once the protocol has been agreed by the majority of schools in its area, all admission authorities must participate in it.
A proposed new Fair Access Protocol for Primary Schools has been developed following a second series of working group meetings with schools and local authority representatives.
Why your views matter
We would like to hear your views on the contents of the new protocol which has been developed based on feedback received from the consultation that took place in June 2023.
In agreeing a local Fair Access Protocol, the view of more than half of the total number of schools in the area should be regarded as the majority. Therefore, this is critical to express your opinion about the protocol. Once it has been agreed by the majority of schools, all admission authorities must participate in it.
Please be advised that the existing Fair Access Protocol remains binding on all schools in the local area until the point at which a new one is adopted.
