Admission Arrangements for 2017-18

We highlighted that our admission arrangements had been altered since we had last consulted (which were agreed by the council and by the Office of the Schools Adjudicator), so we were reiterating these arrangements (as below) with no further plans to alter anything including the Published Admission Numbers (PANs).

• The addition of the catchment school to be added as a further preference
• To give a higher priority to siblings over in-catchment children
• To give a higher priority to siblings at linked Infant and Junior schools
• To give a higher priority to families who can demonstrate that they are fleeing domestic violence

We only received four replies; three from schools and one from a parent.  All four were in favour of our proposals.  One asked us to consider giving a priority for children of staff to support the recruitment and retention of staff in Leicester city schools.  The other asked us to consider the re-introduction of paper application forms.

On the basis of the 4 responses being in favour of our proposals we moved ahead with having these approved through the normal council decision making process.

We considered the 2 requests.  The first (preference given to children of staff) we agreed to add to our consultation for the admission arrangements for 2018-19.  The second (paper application forms) was ejected.  The move to online applications was introduced in September 2015 as part of the council’s ‘channel shift’ policy following similar moves in housing benefits and housing options. We are still awaiting a mobile phone and tablet app which is in the development stage with our software supplier Capita which we hope will make online applications more accessible.
