Proposed changes to Keyham Lodge School and Millgate School - Statutory Notice

Overview

The council has consulted on changes to Keyham Lodge School and Millgate School. The consultation opened on 3^rd June 2013 and closed on 14^th July 2013.

Following the outcomes of the consultation, it is proposed to proceed to the next stage which requires the publication of a statutory notice, followed by a six week statutory representations period.

Changes to Keyham Lodge Special School

Notice is given in accordance with section 19(1) of the Education and Inspections Act 2006 that Leicester City Council intends to make a prescribed alteration to Keyham Lodge Community Special School, Keyham Lane, Leicester, LE5 1FG, with effect from 1^st January 2014.

Keyham Lodge is a community special school which provides 53 day places for boys with Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (SEBD). It is proposed to change the age range of Keyham Lodge School, from its current age range of 11 - 16, to an age range of 9 - 16. It is also proposed to change the intake of pupils at the school from boys only to co-educational (boys and girls). It is further proposed to enlarge the capacity of the school from the current 53 places to 126 places.

Note:

The new school building, currently under construction on the existing site, is being funded under the Government’s Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme. The capital costs will be met by Leicester City Council from the BSF budget.

Changes to Millgate Special School

Millgate School is a community special school which provides 50 day places for boys with Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (SEBD). It is proposed to change the intake of pupils at the school from boys only to co-educational (boys and girls). It is also proposed to enlarge the capacity of the school from the current 50 places to 75 places.

At the end of the representation period, a further decision will need to be taken by the council as to whether to implement the proposals for each school or not.
