Lifestyle Services Review
Overview
Lifestyle services are available for individuals who want support to make lifestyle changes to improve their health and wellbeing. Council funded services include support to stop smoking, increase levels of physical activity (e.g. the Active Lifestyle Scheme), eat a healthier diet (e.g. cook and eat programmes), reduce alcohol consumption and lose weight (e.g. weight management programmes such as DHAL, LEAP and Weightwatchers on referral). The council also funds a health trainer programme which supports people on a 1-1 basis to tackle a range of lifestyle issues.
Smoking, being inactive, not eating healthily, drinking too much alcohol and being overweight are behaviours that contribute towards developing a range of diseases such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke and several types of cancer. It is important that both public health within local authorities and the NHS work together to support people to improve their health and help prevent these diseases.
We want to review the current provision and establish what people actually want from lifestyle services funded by the council. We will then develop a potential model for the new lifestyle service and conduct further consultation on the model in the summer 2016.
Why your views matter
We want you to tell us whether you have used any lifestyle services and what you thought of them. We also want to know what you want from a lifestyle service offered by the council and how they should be funded. The results from this consultation will be analysed and used to help shape the new model for lifestyle services.
