Civil penalties for landlord offences

Closed 14 Apr 2019

Overview

The private rented sector plays an important role in providing residential accommodation in the city. We are looking to strengthen our ability to improve and keep standards high by adopting powers to issue civil penalties.

We are looking for feedback on the Civil Penalty Policy and Procedure and the proposed banding levels of the financial penalties.

If Civil Penalties are implemented, Leicester City Council will have the option of issuing a fixed financial penalty against individuals or organisations committing housing offences, rather than taking out a prosecution.

We would particularly like to hear from interested parties such as landlords, tenants and associated landlord tenant organisations, though we also welcome comments and views from others with an interest in housing.
