Church Road proposed traffic calming
Overview
Leicester City Council is proposing changes to improve road safety and manage vehicle speeds on Church Road, particularly near its junction with High Street.
These proposals include:
-
The construction of a priority chicane on Church Road, immediately south of its junction with High Street.
-
The extension of the existing raised table southwards to accommodate new traffic islands for the crossing.
These changes have been developed in response to community concerns about excessive vehicle speeds and high traffic volumes along Church Road. The introduction of the priority chicane is intended to reduce vehicle speeds and discourage through traffic, improving safety for all road users.
The extension of the raised table will be carried out under Section 90(A) of the Highways Act 1980 and will require the publication of a formal notice before work begins.
