Have your say on resident cycle hangar parking

Closes 17 Nov 2025

Opened 13 Oct 2025

Overview

As part of our ongoing work to support active and sustainable travel, Leicester City Council is looking to install a pilot project of ten cycle hangars for residents to park their bikes securely near their homes.

The cycle hangars are approximately the size of one parking space and can store six standard sized bicycles. Some will also have the option of storing larger adapted or inclusive cycles and cargo bikes.

This survey is designed to assess demand for secure on-street cycle parking that will be solely reserved for residents. Requests for hangars at workplaces, education settings and local shopping centres are not being considered at this time.

Assessments will be made by considering the suitability of sites, current facilities in the area, levels of reported bike thefts and the level of demand. The cycle hangar scheme will be rolled out in stages following further consultation through a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO). This will give all affected residents and businesses a chance to have their say on the proposals.

Once suitable sites have been identified, there will be a formal application process for space within each hangar.
