Knighton Drive road closure amendments
Overview
Leicester City Council is seeking your feedback on proposals to make the temporary closure of Knighton Drive permanent and replacing the planters on Newstead Road with wider footways. As part of an ongoing effort to improve safety and reduce traffic-related issues in the area, the temporary closure has already led to a noticeable reduction in rat running and traffic speeds along Knighton Drive.
Our proposal aims to build on these positive outcomes by creating a permanent solution that benefits the community, pedestrians and cyclists. The permanent closure will include the construction of a kerbed footway to provide a safer, dedicated space for pedestrians, along with cycle slip lanes to maintain access for cyclists. Infastructure will be installed to prevent parking on the new footways.
By making the closure permanent, we hope to continue making it easier and safer for children to get to school, and contributing to a calmer, more pleasant environment for everyone.
A detailed design plan of the proposed changes is attached below, which provides a clear view of how the area will look once the permanent closure is in place.
