St John the Baptist School Street - Parent Post Intervention Survey

Overview

For a number of years, Leicester City Council have received complaints and concerns about the safety and welfare of pupils, their families and local residents near to St John the Baptist School.

To address these concerns, Leicester City Council commenced with a trial of a school street on 9th June 2026. The trial ran for the remainder of the school year and commenced again on 24th August 2026.

At the end of September we will be undertaking pedestrian, vehicle and parking counts. Importantly, we would like to seek your views on the scheme, as someone who lives locally. We will also be seeking the views of the school children and residents.

What does the school street look like

Following on from early engagement with residents, the school street area was extended from East Avenue and parts of North Avenue to also include the whole of North Avenue, Central Avenue and The Avenue.

Dukes Drive is a private road so the traffic regulation order only effects the public roads drivers use to access that road not Dukes Drive itself.

This is an interactive map.

A map showing the proposed school street scheme for St John the Baptist school. It includes the extent of the school streets, the marshalled entry points, the current pedestrian crossing and the proposed single yellow line.

Why your views matter

If the feedback from the surveys is supportive, we plan to make the school street permanent. This would mean that the scheme would move to being enforced by cameras.
