Post Intervention St John the Baptist School Street Survey

Overview

For a number of years, Leicester City Council have received complaints and concerns about the safety and welfare of pupils, their families and local residents near to St John the Baptist School.

To address these concerns, Leicester City Council commenced with a trial of a school street on 9th June 2026. The trial ran for the remainder of the school year and commenced again on 24th August 2026.

At the end of September we will be undertaking pedestrian, vehicle and parking counts. Importantly, we would like to seek your views on the scheme, as someone who lives locally. We will also be seeking the views of the school children and parents.

What does the school street look like

Following on from early engagement with residents, the school street area was extended from East Avenue and parts of North Avenue to also include Central Avenue, The Avenue and the private road Dukes Drive.

Why your views matter

If the feedback from the survey is supportive, we plan to make the school street permanent. This would mean that the scheme would move to being enforced by cameras.
