St Peters resident parking consultation

Overview

Leicester City Council has received a number of enquiries from residents and Ward Councillors regarding parking issues in the Stoneygate area.

Many of these concerns relate to difficulties residents experience when trying to find parking spaces close to their homes. Residents have reported that vehicles associated with local businesses, commuters and other visitors to the area can occupy the limited parking available, making it more challenging for local people to park nearby.

To help address these issues, the Council undertook a formal Traffic Regulation Order consultation for the St Peter's Road area in 2025, proposing the introduction of a residents' parking scheme.

Following the consultation, the Council received a petition from residents within the St Peter's Road area requesting that the proposal be reviewed and that implementation of the scheme be paused. In response, the Council suspended the proposal and carried out a detailed review of the concerns raised. As part of this review, officers undertook additional parking surveys and a further assessment of parking demand and usage within the area.

Following this work, the Council would now like to seek residents' views on the introduction of a revised residents' parking scheme operating as follows:

• 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
• A standalone scheme, separate from the neighbouring Zone E Residential Parking Zone
• Up to two permits per household/business
• One annual visitor permit
• Up to 30 24-hour visitor permits per month

The proposed scheme is intended to prioritise parking for local residents while recognising the needs of local businesses and visitors. To support this approach, provision has been made for designated short-stay parking bays.
