We asked

We sought views on the removal of a tree on Fosse Road South which has been linked to property damage. The tree needs to be removed due to the damage it is causing.

You said

There were two responses via the online consultation.

One respondent did not want the tree removed.

The second respondent had no objections to the tree being removed if the tree was replaced on a street nearby.

We did

We have reviewed the feedback and the decision has been made to remove the tree. The tree will be removed in October 2024.

As part of the tree strategy, for every significant tree lost, there needs to be more than one replacement. Therefore, two new trees will be replanted within the ward in appropriate locations selected by the Trees and Woodlands team.

Overview

Leicester City Council will be carrying out work to remove the Pear tree to the front of 106 Fosse Road South

This tree is being removed due to an established link between the tree and property damage. The pruning of this tree is not a long-term option in this situation.

In line with the Council’s tree policy, where trees are a present danger or nuisance (in law), the council will address this with tree works.

Replacement planting will be undertaken, though it will not be at this location, as another tree will likely continue the nuisance.

The Environmental Act 2021 requires us to consult with members of the public before felling any tree on an urban road (a street tree). See Environmental Act 2021, Chapter 30, Part 6, 115(2) for exceptions to this rule.

We are seeking views on our proposal to remove this tree.
