We did
The decision has been made to remove the trees. The trees will be removed in October 2024.
As part of the council’s tree strategy, for every significant tree lost, there needs to be more than one replacement. Therefore, replacement trees will be replanted within the city in appropriate locations selected by the Trees and Woodlands team.
Overview
Leicester City Council will be carrying out work to remove 20 semi-mature trees including Cherries, Field Maples and Hawthorns. These trees make up a row of trees on Victoria Road East, near to the junction of Lewisher Road to the rear of an office unit at 16-20 High View Close.
The trees are being removed due to an established link between the trees and property damage.
In line with the Council’s tree policy, where trees are a present danger or nuisance (in law), the council will address this with tree works.
The pruning of these trees is not a long-term option in this situation.
Replacement planting will be undertaken, though it will not be at this location, as other trees will likely continue the nuisance.
The Environmental Act 2021 requires us to consult with members of the public before felling any tree on an urban road (a street tree). See Environmental Act 2021, Chapter 30, Part 6, 115(2) for exceptions to this rule.
We are seeking views on our proposal to remove these trees.
