Proposed Tree Replacement - Braunstone Avenue
Overview
Leicester City Council will be carrying out improvement works on Braunstone Avenue. The aim of the works is to complete the installation of several traffic calming features to both improve road safety and pedestrian access into Braunstone Park.
There is a tree located in the proposed work area which needs to be removed due to the proximity to the works meaning that it would be unlikely to survive if left in situ.
The Environmental Act 2021 requires us to consult with members of the public before felling any tree on an urban road (a street tree). See Environmental Act 2021, Chapter 30, Part 6, 115(2) for exceptions to this rule.
The tree - a cherry tree – is located in the area of green space on the east of Abbey Gate. It is council policy to replace any felled trees with two juvenile trees in the same location or nearby, where ground condition allows.
We are seeking views on our proposal to remove this tree as part of ongoing improvement works to the area.
