Council Tax Support Scheme 2025/26
Introduction
Impact on Leicester City Council's finances
The outlook for the Council’s finances is severe, in common with local authorities nationally. We are facing substantial, legally unavoidable cost pressures in social care, and to meet the needs of homeless households. When we set our budget in February, we estimated that there would be a gap between spending and income in 2025/26 of £90m. The budget for 2024/25 was balanced using one-off monies, but these will run out. We are looking for savings that will help us reduce expenditure to the level of our expected income, and changes to the council tax support scheme will assist.
