Fosse Arts studio survey

Closed 11 Jul 2018

Opened 26 Jun 2018

Fosse Arts is a service valued by many in Leicester. However, the building itself is old, access and parking are limited, and the electrics and specialist pottery facilities in particular require significant investment. Relocating the arts provision, the artists’ studio spaces and the adult learning service classes to another refurbished building may be a wiser investment and provide much better facilities.

The new site we are considering is the former Muddy Boots Nursery on Bishopdale Road, Leicester LE4 0SR. No decision has been made yet, and if we go ahead we would like your ideas on how we use the Bishopdale Road building and develop services there.

Why We Are Consulting

The building we are considering was built as a nursery in the mid 1980s. We will refurbish it and change the layout. It is solid and has lots of potential but has been empty for a while. Its benefits are:

•    a modern single storey and accessible building
•    all the main rooms have large windows with plenty of natural light and look out over the gardens
•    will be easy to maintain and efficient to run
•    convenient parking and close to a good bus route
•    outdoor space with gardens and located next to a park – will make it a pleasant place to visit.

We aim to create:

•    pottery and art teaching and drop-in facilities to replicate those currently at Fosse (but with new kilns and better facilities)
•    studio space for up to five artists/potters/craftspeople
•    two classrooms for English, Maths, ESOL, employability courses and community hire
•    a community café – providing training and work preparation opportunities while offering refreshments for users of the centre and local people. Also a space to exhibit art work
•   a community garden – providing training, volunteering and work preparation opportunities
•    an accessible toilet with hoist.

We would like you as existing service users to tell us what you think about this idea.
