We asked for your comments to review the council’s housing register and the proposed changes to the council’s housing allocations policy.
Overall the range of responses was between 51% - 70% stating that the changes would have either a positive effect or no effect upon them, compared with 4% - 34% of the respondents who stated the proposals would have a negative effect on them.
Following the consultation, council’s executive approved the changes proposed to the housing allocations policy. This is now in the process of being implemented.
The council’s Housing Register is a list of people who have applied for council housing and nominations from housing associations. A person’s priority position on the register is determined by their housing need.
The rules and the procedures that set out who can apply to go on the Housing Register, along with their priority banding, are governed by the council’s Housing Allocations Policy.
The council is required to review its housing allocation policy on a regular basis to ensure that social homes are allocated to people who genuinely need and deserve them.
This consultation looks at proposals that are designed to give greater preference to people with the most housing need and who do not have the financial resources to explore other housing options.
