Results Updated 15 Nov 2018

‘The consultation on Saffron Lane Sports Stadium has now closed and we thank you for taking the time to comment.

We are now reviewing the results and will be in touch with users of the track early in the new year to discuss them, at which point a summary of results will also appear here.

Overview

We are consulting on proposed modifications to Saffron Lane Athletics Stadium as part of an £85,000 investment in the facility.

The core proposal is to convert the centre of the stadium so it can be used as a multi-sports site, accommodating additional sports such as football, rugby or American football. In order to accommodate this, some existing athletic facilities would be relocated to other parts of the stadium.

Saffron Lane is primarily an athletics track, and athletics events and training will continue to be the main function of the stadium in the event of the proposed changes being introduced.

The stadium hosts a number of school events throughout the year and these would continue to take place in the event of any modifications being made.

Leicester City Council has worked closely with UK Athletics to identify suitable places at the stadium to relocate the jumping and throwing areas. Initial plans have been approved by UK Athletics. This would mean that the stadium would continue to keep its UK Athletics certification for hosting competitions.

There are no set deadlines for the proposed changes though we would expect to complete any works during the autumn/winter season to avoid disruption to the main athletics season.

Why We Are Consulting

We are seeking the views of clubs and individuals on whether the proposed changes would meet their ongoing athletic and competition requirements.
