Kestrel Mead Junior School Street - Parent Survey
Overview
For years Leicester City Council have received complaints and concerns about the ongoing challenges of traffic and congestion around Kestrel Mead Junior School. This is making the school run unsafe for all families, especially those who are choosing to walk, wheel cycle or scoot to school.
As a solution, the school were keen to trial a school street on Bessingham Close on Clean Air Day in 2025 and the closure was received well by all and especially the pupils.
If a school street goes ahead, signs would be installed at the entrance to Bessingham Close and, during school run times, cones and a road closed sign will be used to prevent access to Bessingham Close.
The school street would be implemented under an experimental traffic order which means that we can make changes to the timings or extent of the school street.
We have recorded the levels of traffic in the surrounding streets, and where parents are parking in the surrounding areas to understand and take action, if traffic and parking is shifted to other locations.

Why your views matter
If the feedback from the online survey is supportive, we plan to start a trial School Street lasting up to 18 months. During this trial, residents can share their thoughts, suggest changes, or ask for the scheme to be removed.
