Kestrel Mead Junior School Street

Overview

Leicester City Council have received complaints and concerns about the safety and welfare of pupils, their families and residents during the school run on roads surrounding Kestrel Mead Junior School for several years. We would like to capture views on any ssues you encounter in this area and your views on a proposal to trial a School Street as a way of alleviating some of these problems.

We are proposing that the School Street would operate on Bessingham Close. Pedestrians, cyclists and exempt vehicles would still be able to access the School Street. However, would not be accessible to general motor vehicles, as a way of reducing traffic around the school. The closure points will initially be marshalled by Highways Operatives, and then after the initial period, by staff members from the school

We would also like your views on the interventions you would like to see.

Proposed School Street scheme:

View the plan for the proposed School Street scheme.

If you would like to talk to the team about this proposal, there will be a drop-in session at Hamilton Library on Wednesday 30th September between 10am and 2pm.

Why your views matter

If the feedback from the online survey is supportive, we plan to start a trial School Street lasting up to 18 months. During this trial, residents can share their thoughts, suggest changes, or ask for the scheme to be removed.

This activity will open on 10 Sep 2026. Please come back on or after this date to give us your views.
