Joint Health and Social Care Learning Disability Strategy 2019-2022

Closed 23 Apr 2019

Opened 30 Jan 2019

Overview

This draft strategy aims to improve services and people’s experience of them in Leicester. We have a legal duty to write a strategy and deliver a plan that will improve services for people with a learning disability. This includes what we should change about the way we work in order to meet the needs of people with a learning disability.

Learning disabilities are conditions that affect the way a person understands information and how they communicate. A learning disability can be mild or severe and can impact people in many different ways. It can cause a difficulty:
•    understanding new or complex information
•    learning new skills
•    coping independently.

Laws in England also say what must be done to make sure people with a learning disability are valued and have the same opportunities as other people.

This strategy includes things that we think should happen to make life better and ensure that people with a learning disability have equal rights. It outlines what we will do to make sure people with a learning disability can have a safe and happy life.

The strategy has been produced by all partners of the Learning Disability Partnership Board (LDPB), including people who have a learning disability, family members, family care providers, paid care providers and other professionals who work with people who have a learning disability.

Why We Are Consulting

When there are many pressures on funding it is important that we focus our resources on those who need the most support. We must also continue to provide services for people with nominal support needs to help improve or maintain their health, well-being and independence.

We want this strategy to provide the best support and services we can, so we need to involve people who use services, provide services, and those that support others to access services.

This is a draft joint health and social care strategy and it details what we will do and our priorities for the next three years.

This is your opportunity to tell us what you think: have we got our plans right? Do we need to change anything? Is there anything we have missed?
