Attached is a summary of the responses made to the council by way of direct correspendence and the online consultation forms. Although it does not capture all the conversations and opinions expressed within the consultation process - it nevertheless gives a good representation of the range and balance of opinion.
Alongside the individual conversations and feedback - presentations about the scheme were made to:
- the Heritage Partnership,
- the Conservation Advisory Panel,
- the Market Forum,
- the chair of the Civic Society,
- English Partnerships,
- the Inclusive Design and Access Panel,
- the LE One partnership
- the Older People’s Forum
all of whom welcomed and were enthusiastic about the proposals.

Overview
This consultation covers concept designs for a proposed new food hall, complementary plans for re-developing small sections of the current outdoor Market and a more substantive proposal to demolish the current Market Hall and create a combination of commercial activity and public realm on the new space that will be created.
Why your views matter
Towards the end of 2011 and the start of 2012 we asked you about the principle of demolishing the market hall and creating a new Food Hall. There was a clear majority in support of that idea and we have now moved on with more detailed design work.
We would again like your comments and suggestions so that we can amend the scheme if necessary before submitting for planning permission to deliver the first phase.
Please watch this 3D fly through which features what the new food hall and square will look like.
The Market Re-development Proposal Design is available for download as a .pdf below. In it, you will see a series of pictures that present the scheme and explain some of the thinking behind the design.
We would ask that you watch the video and examine the proposal contained within the pdf, and then give us your feedback.
You can submit your feedback by using the online form or in writing.

What happens next
Sixty replies were received from the consultation exercise, fifty-six from the online survey and four other written submissions.
There is intended to be a further significant public consultation exercise running for 8 weeks from mid / end July to mid/ end September. Once rchitects have worked up in more detail their plans for what the new public square will look like - we will explore the options for building to the rear of the corn exchange and open a new consultation to gather peoples optinions and preferences.
In terms of the initial consultation - the principles outlines in the proposal documents were basically endorsed by the great majority of people. However in certain areas we are proposing to make small adjustments so that the existing cafe at the edge of the market is can be proposed to expand.
